Instructions

1. Prepare the Ingredients: Make sure the rice is soft and fully cooked. If you’re cooking it specifically for the purée, rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking, then cook until very tender. Let it cool to room temperature.

Boil or scramble the egg, then separate the yolk. Ensure the yolk is thoroughly cooked, as undercooked yolk is not recommended for babies. Slice the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out half. It should be ripe and soft to blend smoothly.

Tips for Success

To ensure your recipe is a success, start by preparing the rice properly. It's important to cook the rice until it's very soft and tender. If you are making it specifically for the purée, rinse the rice well before cooking to remove excess starch.

Cooking the rice until it’s tender will help achieve a smooth texture when blended. Once it’s cooked, let the rice cool to room temperature to avoid making the purée too hot for your baby.

When preparing the egg yolk, be sure to cook it thoroughly. Boiling or scrambling it are both great methods, but you should ensure that the yolk is fully cooked to avoid any health risks for your baby. After cooking, carefully separate the yolk and discard the white.

For the avocado, make sure it’s ripe and soft. A ripe avocado blends easily and creates a creamy texture, which is important for the consistency of the purée. Slice the avocado, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh to use in your recipe.

When blending the ingredients, remember to take your time. Start by adding the rice, avocado, cooked egg yolk, and milk to your blender or food processor.

Blend everything until you reach a smooth consistency, but feel free to leave a bit of texture if your baby is ready for it. Be sure to stop the blender occasionally to scrape down the sides, ensuring everything is evenly blended. If the purée feels too thick, you can gradually add more milk to achieve the perfect consistency based on your baby’s preference.

Lastly, when serving, always test the temperature of the purée before giving it to your baby to ensure it’s safe to eat. Pour the purée into a bowl and serve immediately for the best texture and flavor. Pay attention to the cooking methods and blending process to ensure the recipe is both tasty and suitable for your baby’s delicate palate.

Serving Suggestions

This purée can be enjoyed on its own as a simple meal for your baby. It’s ideal for introducing a variety of flavors and textures. If you want to enhance the experience, consider serving it alongside some fresh fruit or a small side of steamed vegetables, offering a balanced meal that can help introduce more nutrients and flavors to your baby’s diet.

Another option is to serve the purée with small pieces of soft finger foods for babies who are ready to experiment with self-feeding. You can pair the purée with small, soft pieces of steamed carrots (carrot sticks), sweet potato, or zucchini, which can help encourage your baby to practice picking up food and exploring textures on their own.

If your baby is ready for a bit more texture, you can serve the purée less smooth and allow them to practice chewing. You can also try offering the purée as a dip with soft whole-grain crackers or small bread pieces, providing a fun and interactive way for your baby to engage with the meal.

For an extra nutritional boost, you can sprinkle some finely ground seeds, such as chia or flaxseed, on top before serving, as these provide omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. Just be sure to grind them well to avoid choking hazards.

How Store

To store the purée, first ensure it has cooled down to room temperature before placing it in an airtight container. This helps preserve the freshness and prevents condensation from making the purée soggy. You can store the purée in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.

If you want to keep it for a longer period, you can freeze the purée. Pour it into ice cube trays or silicone molds to create individual portions, and once frozen, transfer the cubes into a freezer-safe bag or container. This allows you to defrost smaller portions as needed. The purée can be stored in the freezer for up to 1-2 months.

When you’re ready to serve, simply thaw the frozen purée in the fridge overnight or gently heat it in a microwave or on the stovetop. Be sure to stir the purée well to ensure an even temperature, and always test it before serving to your baby.
