North West, 12, Dresses as BabyMetal for Halloween with Friends

12-year-old North West, daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, has once again raised the Halloween stakes, this time channeling her creativity into dressing as the Japanese all-female metal band BABYMETAL. In videos shared on a joint TikTok account with her mother, Kim Kardashian, North stood in the center alongside two of her friends, dressed in the band’s signature red-and-black tutu ensembles complete with combat boots and a silver-panel bodice.

The TikTok clips featured North and her friends lip-syncing to the song, “The End (feat. BABYMETAL)” by Lil Uzi Vert. They were dancing and mouthing the lyrics with playful precision, and their energy and accuracy impressed fans of the band and Halloween watchers alike, racking up over 7 million views.  

Social media reactions ranged from delighted surprise to admiration for North’s choice compared to her recent outfits, which have raised a lot of gossip and concern about Kim's parenting style. Many fans applauded her for choosing a relatively obscure import pop-metal act, appreciating her alternative to typical Halloween character costumes.

Some argued that the mother-daughter duo’s fashion decisions have been pushing the boundary for a pre-teen since her separation from Kanye West.

In response to the backlash, Kardashian has defended her daughter’s style as a reflection of her creativity and personality, stating that North has expressed her own identity through fashion and social media, and has always been a “tomboyish” individual. She made comments that wearing fake accessories was a “non-issue,” expressing that she doesn't see the big deal, as they are fake. 

She stated that many parents make mistakes and that we should give her a lot of grace, saying, “As a mom, you're kind of like learning at the same time.” 

Beyond costume fame and headline-making outfits, North West has a variety of interests that paint a fuller picture of the 12-year-old’s personality. She has also shown an inclination toward fashion design, music, and streetwear and her social-media posts frequently show her creating art, playing musical instruments, and enjoying dance or gymnastic activities.
