The Primark Plush Bag Recall affected Stitch and Angel plush bags due to their zipper pulls that can detach and cause choking hazards. About 2,900 units of Stitch and Angel bags were affected.

On May 22, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of two Primark Plush Bags for children sold in Primark stores located in the Northeast, as well as in Florida, Maryland, and Illinois. The recall was issued because the zipper pull on the back of the bags can get easily detached.

This creates a choking hazard for young children, especially for toddlers who might put the zipper pull in their mouths. If you're a parent, this is a serious safety concern to be aware of. Children's product safety isn't just about comfort; it’s about preventing dangerous accidents before they happen.

Key Facts

The CPSC recalled a blue DTR Plush Bag Stitch and a purple DTR Plush Bag Angel on May 22, 2025, because the zipper pull on the back of the plush bags can detach, posing a choking and ingestion hazard to small children.

If your child owns any of these bags, please take them away immediately and contact the Primark store for a full refund.

Details of the Primark Plush Bag Recall

The Primark Plush Bag recall affected both the DTR Plush Bag Stitch and DTR Plush Bag Angel. Each bag measures approximately 10 inches in length and 8 inches in width, with a care tag attached to the side of the bag. The Primark DTR Plush Bag Angel was sold in purple, while the DTR Plush Bag Stitch was sold in blue.

The recall, announced on May 22, 2025, affected approximately 2,900 units of these bags. According to the CPSC, the plush bags were recalled because the zipper pull on the back can detach, posing a choking hazard and ingestion hazard to small children. Also, if a child swallows the zipper or chokes on it, it could lead to serious injury or even death.

The manufacturers of these bags, Primark US Corp., based in Boston, sold them at their stores in the Northeast, as well as in Florida, Maryland, and Illinois. They were sold for about $6 from March 2024 through October 2024.

To protect your child, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges that you immediately take the plush bags away from them and take them to the Primark store for a full refund(1).

Federal Regulation Safety Standards for Children's Products

When it comes to products made for kids, like the recently recalled Primark plush bags, there are strict federal safety rules in place to help keep your little ones safe. According to regulations set by the Federal government, all children’s products sold in the U.S. must undergo third-party lab testing and have a written Children's Product Certificate (CPC) demonstrating compliance before reaching store shelves (2).

This certificate confirms that the item meets key safety standards, including limits on lead, choking hazards, and flammability. It also helps retailers identify unsafe products early and get them off their shelves quickly.

Every-day products that aren’t specifically designed for children but may still be used around them must also meet certain safety standards. These fall under a General Certificate of Conformity (GCC). This shows that the product was properly tested or followed a reasonable safety program. Both CPCs and GCCs play a crucial role in preventing unsafe items from entering homes, classrooms, and daycare centers. As a parent, it’s important to know these regulations and understand why these recalls are taken seriously (2).
