It was easy to see in the way she engaged with the girls. She was lovely.’ Dan added, ‘It feels like you are speaking to a mum, first and foremost.’

They immediately chose to be at Tŷ Hafan, where the hospice staff provided unwavering support. ‘In doing so, he became so familiar with this environment, it actually gave him the opportunity to recover,’ Dan shared. Over the years, the hospice has offered respite care, emotional support, and a sense of community for the entire family.
The hospice also places a strong emphasis on the well-being of siblings, recognising the unique challenges they face. Alex highlighted the importance of this aspect, saying, ‘It’s really important for that part of the family. It is one of so many things that they do, and to have the princess to help raise the profile of what they do here is just phenomenal.’
Kate’s new role as patron of Tŷ Hafan follows a legacy of royal involvement with the hospice. Her father-in-law, King Charles, previously held the position, and before him, Princess Diana was tapped to be the charity’s patron in 1995. Although Diana passed away before the hospice’s construction was completed, her commitment to causes like this left an indelible mark. You could see the same quality in the princess today. She put people at ease immediately — you just felt you were simply talking to another mother, first and foremost. And that is priceless for families like us.’
